The tilt unit is two accelerometers mounted at right angles, in such a way that they can detect pitch and roll. Each is a standard accelerometer, which is measuring the force of gravity in a given direction.
These units will also measure the acceleration in a lift, or a motor vehicle. The output is a digital string, which is sent to the controller for processing.
